After a revamp by the ‘Queen of Shops’ Mary Portas herself, 37 Old London Road has become one of South-West London’s best haunts for vintage, handmade and upcycled furniture and accessories. Quirky pieces from up and coming designers litter the front of the shop, offering unusual ceramics, wall art, jewellery, soft furnishings and embroidery. Moving towards the back, the shop opens out into numerous stylised living, bedroom and dining areas with vintage furniture restored to it’s former glory. Every era and taste is catered for from Walnut amoires from the 30s to pyschedilic orange patterned sofas from the early 70s. Most of the furniture has been salvaged and resurfaced, repainted, reinvented or stripped completely back. Although the prices are quite hefty, the store is a great place to get ideas for your own projects such as making use of your wall space with leather bound suitcases or arranging your furniture to create a practical installation in your home.
